3 Ways to Choose the Right Bathroom Tile

Because everyone’s needs and design tastes are different, there isn’t a clear-cut step-by-step process for choosing the best bathroom tile that works for every home. However, Progressive Builders has remodeled quite a few bathrooms over the years, which means we’ve picked up some tips that can help you choose the perfect tile for your bathroom remodel. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Have a vision.
When many homeowners begin the process of a bathroom remodel, they tend to already have an idea of what they want. Sometimes those dreams are specific, down to the make and model of the tile. For others, they may only know the general look and feel of what they are looking for. Whether it’s every detail or just an overall concept, don’t ignore these dreams! Consider this your starting point and use it as you do further research, taking budget and practicality into account. Acknowledge what you love and figure out a way to make it happen in a feasible way.
  1. Simplicity is key.
Typically, bathrooms have a few different areas that have various tile needs, including the floor, the wall around the tub and/or shower and even the walls of the entire bathroom. With all of these tiles spaces, it is important to not go crazy on the different types of tiles. Try to keep with the same colors, patterns and textures. Style-wise, it is ideal to keep it to no more than three different tiles in the space. Use what you love as a starting point and slowly build from there.
  1. Consider maintenance and scale.
Maintenance doesn’t just mean cleaning, though that should be taken into consideration before covering all of the bathroom walls with light-colored tile. You also need to know the maintenance needs of the material you will potentially work with. For example, natural stone tiles tend to be a sought-out tile choice, but they require sealant to secure and much more long-term maintenance in order for them to remain looking fresh.

Besides thinking about the practicality of your options, also make sure to consider how your bathroom tiles will look when they’re installed. For example, large scale tiles are trendy, but that look might not be ideal for your space.
